Tilby Wendy
Tilby studied visual arts and literature at the University of Victoria before attending the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design where she majored in film and animation. Her student film, Tables of Content, received many honours including the Grand Prix de Montreal at the Montreal World Film Festival and Best Debut Film at the Ottawa, Espinho and Shanghai International Animation Festivals.
She was invited to join the National Film Board of Canada in 1987. Her first film, Strings/Cordes, won numerous international awards including an Academy Award nomination, a Genie Award (Academy of Canadian Cinema) and first prize at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival. Her latest release, When the Day Breaks (co-directed with Amanda Forbis), was awarded the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes International Film Festival and the Grand Prix and Critics Prize at the Annecy International Animation Festival. Tilby has taught animation at Concordia University in Montreal and was a visiting lecturer at Harvard University.
In 2003, she relocated from Montreal to Calgary, where she made, with Amanda Forbis, Wild Life (2011), nominated for an Oscar.
