Portrait Isacsson Magnus

Magnus Isacsson sees documentary filmmaking as a way of life. He likes to follow situations over long periods of time, often several years. In Power, he followed the successful five-year fight of the Cree of Northern Quebec against the hydroelectric megaproject at Great Whale. In The Choir Boys, it was the tumultuous life of Montreal's choir of homeless men.

Even in a shorter time frame, the basic elements of drama and conflict are the same. Isacsson, who immigrated to Canada from Sweden in 1970, has won many awards for his work in photography, radio, television and film.

His most recent NFB film, The Battle of Rabaska - Chronicle of an Environmental Conflict (2008), relates the story of citizen activits opposing a methane tanker terminal.
