Lemieux Karl
A native of Kingsley Falls, near Victoriaville, Quebec, Karl Lemieux lives and works in Montreal. After studying cinema at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University, Karl Lemieux made a number of abstract animated films (Mouvements de lumière, Trash and No Stars), recycled films (Western Sunburn), and a short film of experimental fiction (Passage). Mamori, directed in collaboration with Francisco López, was made for the NFB's animation studios following a visit to the Amazon rainforest.
Working with musicians from Montreal's experimental scene (Alexandre St-Onge, Dave Bryant, Roger Tellier-Craig, Radwan Moumneh, Jonathan Parant, Hyena Hive), Lemieux has, since early 2000, been presenting performances for 16 mm projectors, in Quebec and elsewhere in the world (Lausanne, Dresden, New York, San Francisco, etc.). He has also contributed to two theatre productions by Marie Brassard: L'Invisible (2008) and The Glass Eye (2007). In addition, he is a co-founder of Double Negative, an avant-garde collective based in Montreal, dedicated to the production and presentation of experimental films.
