Welsh Christine

"As a writer and filmmaker, I am passionately committed to documenting the experience of aboriginal women in Canada." says Welsh, a Métis.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1953, Christine Welsh has been making films since 1974.

Welsh received her B.A. in English from the University of Regina and went on to study History and Women's Studies at the University of Toronto. She has worked as a freelance editor on over a dozen productions and written and produced films on a wide range of aboriginal issues. Producer, writer and on-camera presenter for Women in the Shadows, Welsh is currently working a book based on the film. A second film in the two-part Keepers of the Nation series, Keepers of the Fire, is in development.

Welsh has also published several articles on the historical and contemporary experience of Métis women.

Currently, Welsh lives on Vencouver Island where she is raising her son, Daniel, and plotting her return to the prairie she loves.
