Olson Lorne
Lorne Olson was raised on the Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation and credits his early love of documentaries to his pursuit of filmmaking: "Learning about issues and events that I would otherwise not have been exposed to has always been appealing to me."
After high school, Lorne made his way to the Vancouver Film School, where he enrolled in the two-year Film and Video Production course. This was followed by several stints in various administrative and research fields within the Aboriginal community. In 2001, he returned to his love of film and video production and graduated from the Aboriginal Broadcast Training Initiative.
Since then, Lorne has been honing his skills: he's apprenticed as an assistant editor for two seasons of The Sharing Circle, an Aboriginal documentary series. He's also worked as a locations production assistant on several features, including Stryker, Overload and The Big White.
Apples & Indians is Lorne's first short film, a whimsical and profound look at his attempts to identify himself. It was made in 2006 as part of the NFB's First Stories program.
Currently, he works as a junior researcher at APTN National News. He plans to develop his directing and producing skills.
