Portrait Cazabon Andrée

Andrée Cazabon's first two films, the docu-drama Letters to a Street Child and the documentary Enfer et contre tous! (No Quick Fix) were inspired by her own experiences on the streets at the age of 13-14. Advocating for youth-at-risk, the director has brought her films on a cross-country tour, leading over a hundred public discussions for youth, families, the public at large, policy makers and the media. Her films have been screened at the Vancouver Film Festival, a the ExCentris theatre in Montreal and broadcast to close to a million viewers on television. Enfer et contre tous! was nominated for Best Documentary at the Prix Gémaux in 2001. Her films and her community work for youth-at-risk have received much attention in the media as well, such as the Vicky Gabereau Show, Canada AM, The Globe and Mail, CBC Radio, Faze magazine, The Toronto Star, Le Devoir, etc.

Her third film, Wards of the Crown, reveals the impact of growing up in government care in the lives of four young people. Due to her personal experiences in group homes, Cazabon continues to advocate for youth-at-risk, this time focusing on the young people growing up in the child welfare system.
