Ransen Mort

Portrait Ransen Mort

Mort Ransen is a writer, director and producer of theatrical feature films and television programs.

His best-known feature, which he directed, co-wrote and co-produced was the highly acclaimed Margaret's Museum which received Most Popular Film Awards at both the Vancouver and Atlantic International film festivals and was honoured with six Genies, after eleven nominations.

Ransen's other credits include Touched (starring Academy-Award nominee Lynn Redgrave) which he co-wrote, produced and directed; My Father's Angel; Falling Over Backwards; and Bayo.

Ransen produced My Father's Angel, winner of a number of International and Canadian awards including the Genie for Best Actor, eight Leos and the Werner Fassbinder Award in Germany. It was directed by Bosnian filmmaker Davor Marjanovic, (his first feature) and is currently in theatrical release.

Ransen was born in Montreal. After a brief career on stage, as an actor and director, he joined the National Film Board of Canada, for which he has written and directed nineteen films and numerous international awards.

He left the Film Board in 1984 to write and direct the theatrical feature, Bayo (Jape Films) starring Ed McNamara and Patricia Phillips.

Ransen continues to work and live on Saltspring Island, British Columbia.
