Fortier Robert

Robert Fortier is director and co-producer of The Ticket Back, a powerful and realistic drama about a woman's fight to free herself and her family from an abusive ex-husband.

No stranger to the subject of family conflicts, Fortier directed and produced five episodes in the NFB's Family Crisis series of half-hour dramatic films reflecting problems and crises faced by many families. The series starred some of Canada's most outstanding actors, including Keanu Reeves, and received a score of international honours. The Last Right, written, directed, edited and produced by Fortier, received the Grand Prize at the 1985 International Film Festival in Varna, Bulgaria. A Gift For Kate, co-produced by Fortier, captured a Chris Bronze Plaque at the 35th International Film Festival in Columbus, Ohio, as well as a Gold Medal at the International Film and Television Festival in New York.

A veteran filmmaker with over 25 years of experience at the NFB, Fortier won the 1981 Genie Award for Best Theatrical Documentary for The Devil At Your Heels, a portrait of late Canadian stunt driver Ken Carter which he directed, edited and co-produced.

In 1994 the NFB released his 2-part series entitled Steve Bauer Inside and Out, about the world-famous Canadian cycling champion.
