Trudeau Pierre M.

Portrait Trudeau Pierre M.

Pierre M. Trudeau studied animation at Concordia University in Montreal. After teaming up with fellow filmmakers to found the independent company Ciné-Clic, which produced public service announcements, he directed some 15 animated shorts, including Last Call Blues (1985) and Buston Keater (1986).

He won the 1987-1988 Cinéaste recherché(e) competition, which led to his first NFB film, Kidstuff (1990), a shattering look at domestic violence that combined puppet animation and drawings on paper. The film revealed his signature style and pointed up his skill at creating puppets from paper, a technique he employed in his next two films, 1, 2, 3, Coco (1991) and Baroque'n Roll (1994), produced as part of the Rights from the Heart collection for children. Next came two comical and moving shorts on the joys of fatherhood, Cuckoo, Mr. Edgar! (1999) and Operation Cuckoo (2002), two computer-animated films featuring a clockwork cuckoo. After a stint in France working on Ruzz and Ben (2004), he wrote, produced and directed three non-narrative shorts (Tripes, Entrailles, Viscères), followed by Garbage Angels, a 3-D animation made using recycled objects.
