Fernie Lynne

Portrait Fernie Lynne

Lynne Fernie is a widely respected Canadian multi-disciplinary artist, filmmaker, and cultural activist. Her work has received national and international awards and she has been honoured for her contributions to lesbian and gay culture by both Canadian and American organizations.

In 1993 she co-directed and wrote the acclaimed NFB feature documentary Forbidden Love: The Unashamed Stories of Lesbian Lives. Two years later, she was co-director and writer of the award-winning documentary Fiction and Other Truths: A Film about Jane Rule, about the life and times of an acclaimed author.

Lynne has been an invited speaker at conferences and universities in Canada and the U.S., as well as at national and international film festivals where her films have shown. She has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council, and has appeared on CBC radio and television as an arts and culture specialist.

In 2003 she directed Apples + Oranges about name-calling, bullying and homophobia.
