Brenda Longfellow was born under the super stack in Copper Cliff, Ontario. She made her first film in 1984, and since then has written and directed several award-winning films which freely mix traditional documentary with dramatizations, on-screen text, and other experimental strategies.
Her films include Our Marilyn (co-winner 1988 Oberhausen Film Festival); Gerda, A Balkan Journey and Shadow Maker/Gwendolyn MacEwen Poet (winner of a Genie for Best Short Documentary, 1998).
She also teaches in the department of film and video at York University, and is currently completing a feature documentary on photographer Tina Modotti, entitled Tina in Mexico (1923-30).
