Paris 1919 wins a 2009 Banff World Television Award

Paris 1919, Paul Cowan's feature-length documentary based on Margaret MacMillan's bestselling book, won the Banff World Television Award in the category of History and Biography programs. The awards were announced last night at the 30th Banff World Television Festival.

Paris 1919 skilfully merges remarkable archival footage with riveting re-enactments to depict the world-changing events of the Paris Peace Conference, which led to the Treaty of Versailles, the League of Nations and, as some historians claim, the Second World War.

Director Paul Cowan is one of Canada's most respected and versatile filmmakers. In a distinguished 30-year career, Cowan has worked as director, cinematographer and writer, in both drama and documentary, and has been honoured with numerous international awards.

The Banff World Television Festival takes place June 7-10. Industry personnel from over 25 countries are in attendance. This year, 130 programs from over 30 countries were chosen as finalists in the 23 program categories. For more information, visit http://www.banff2009.com/
