Celebrate the NFB's 70th anniversary with special screenings of Capturing Reality in Montreal and Toronto, June 5 -11

To celebrate the NFB's 70th anniversary, a series of events have been planned for the premiere screenings of Capturing Reality in Montreal and Toronto. Pepita Ferrari's film explores the art of documentary filmmaking through interviews with some of the genre's most influential practitioners, including Albert Maysles, Errol Morris, Werner Herzog and Nick Broomfield.

In Montreal, the original English and French version of the film with French subtitles will screen at the CineRobotheque on June 5 and 7 at 7:00 pm. On June 6 at 7:00 pm, the film will screen with English subtitles. The screenings will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker and several other directors. A special screening of Jean-François Pouliot's film NFB 70 Years will precede the film.

There are other activities planned to celebrate the NFB's 70th anniversary. On June 7 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm, the CineRobotheque is offering a workshop on the art of animated film which is open to families. From 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm birthday cake will be served in the personal viewing area where there will be free access to a library of over 9,500 films. The projection booth will be open to the public and you will have the chance to take a souvenir photograph with the NFB's honorary 50th anniversary Oscar.

In Toronto, free screenings take place on June 9 and 10 at 7:00 pm at the Mediatheque. The first screening will be followed by a Q&A with Pepita Ferrari (director), Michelle van Beusekom (producer) and two of the film's subjects, Jennifer Baichwal (Manufactured Landscapes) and Velcrow Ripper (Scared Sacred). The second screening will be followed by two focus group discussions: Why People Talk to Cameras and Collaboration in Documentary.

These events are for families, professionals and anyone interested to learn about what has built the NFB's reputation over the course of its 70 years of existence: documentaries, auteur animation and innovative works on social topics that reflect the views of Canadians on national and international issues.

All events are free. For more information, read the full press release.
