Birthday Parties at the NFB Mediatheque

Looking for an exciting and unique way to celebrate your birthday? Try an animation party at the Mediatheque!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1) What ages are eligible for a birthday party at the NFB Mediatheque?
Birthday parties are offered to ages 3 and up. There is no maximum age limit, so moms, dads, grandparents, and young-at-hearts can have their very own animation birthday party at the NFB Mediatheque!

2) What is the cost of a birthday party booking?  Which forms of payment do you accept?
The cost of a birthday party is a flat fee of $150.00, which includes all applicable taxes. We accept cash, debit, VISA, MasterCard, American Express or a cheque made out to the “Receiver General for Canada.”

3) What is the maximum number of children permitted?
We ask that you please limit the number of children to 15, including the birthday boy/girl.  At least one adult must accompany the children at all times.

4) May I bring more than 15 kids if I pay extra?

In order to create quality animation for the birthday party guests, we must limit the number of children to 15.

5) Which days and times are available for birthday party bookings?
We currently offer birthday parties on Saturdays,  from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m., and on Sundays, from 3 to 5 p.m. Call in advance to make your reservation as they will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

6) What activities are offered at the 2-hour party?
During the first hour, an NFB facilitator will show you how to make a short animated film on a theme of your choice, using a variety of materials. During the second half of the party, you’ll enjoy your animated creations as you munch on birthday cake or open your presents!

7) Is catering available onsite?
Unfortunately we do not offer any catering. Please feel free to provide or receive delivery of your own food (please ensure it does not contain nut products).

8) Is parking available onsite?
The NFB Mediatheque does not have its own parking facilities, however there are several public lots nearby. The closest one is the Scotiabank Theatre’s underground parking garage.

9) Why are candles and/or sparklers on the birthday cake not permitted? Are there any alternatives?
Due to building fire regulations, we ask that guests refrain from lighting birthday cake candles. A fun alternative is to purchase neon glow-sticks and distribute them to each of the guests. We have a space adjacent to the workshop area where we are able to dim the lights, so kids can create their own birthday light-show!

10) When is payment due? Can I pay in advance?
You can simply pay on the day of the birthday party. If you would like to pay in advance, you may do so by calling 416-973-2186.

11) Can I store my refrigerated/frozen goods at the Mediatheque?

Of course!  Simply let one of your workshop facilitators know what you would like to have stored, and they will take care of the rest.

12) Are there any restrictions in terms of the food I can bring?
Please feel free to bring in or order any kind of food you wish, as long as it does not contain any nut products.

13) May I decorate the workshop space in advance?
Absolutely! You may decorate the room just before the party is set to begin.

14) How far in advance should we arrive at the Mediatheque?
Feel free to arrive 10 to 15 minutes earlier than the start time of your party. If you would like to arrive even earlier, this can be arranged when you book your workshop.

15) How am I able to get a copy of the children’s animation projects once they are complete?

Within 48 hours of the party, an e-mail will be sent to you containing a link for you to download your own animated work.  Please feel free to distribute this to whomever you like!

16) This sounds great! How do I book?
Due to popular demand, advance reservations for birthday parties are strongly recommended. Please call NFB Mediatheque Team Leader Olivier Dyason, at 416-973-2186, or send an e-mail to o.dyason@nfb.ca to book your birthday party with us today!
