Why would someone who has a loving supportive mother go searching for another? And why would a mother of a thoughtful compassionate daughter want to keep her a secret?

When Marie Klaassen -- who was adopted at birth -- sets out to find her birthmother, she has no idea that her search will turn her into a skilled and persistent sleuth, solving one of the most basic of human mysteries: where do I come from?

On one level, Marie has always known exactly where she comes from - a warm, devoted family with loving parents and three adopted siblings. It wasn't until she herself gave birth that she realized her babies were the first people she had ever known with a flesh-and-blood relationship to her. She experienced the powerful bond between mother and child and started to wonder about the woman who had "given her up" more than three decades earlier.

To My Birthmother tracks Marie as she opens a Pandora's box of secrets and surprises in her quest to unravel the mystery of her origins. Along the way, she makes an unexpected discovery and finally learns the identity of the person who gave her life.

The film is an open letter that answers her birthmother's question, "Oh my God, how did you find me?" with honesty and dignity, recognizing the dedication involved in trying to find a birth parent and the maturity and compassion needed for a reunion.
