This historic 4-volume series represents one of the NFB's most ambitious documentary projects. Culled from over 16 million feet of film shot by Canadian, British, American, German and Russian cameramen, the series powerfully details Canada's World War II effort, from the battlefronts abroad to the civilian fronts at home. In black and white. Dusks: 1936 - March 1940 Germany re-arms and Hitler propounds his "master race" doctrine. Germany overruns Czechoslovakia. Britain and Canada join the war. The first Canadian troopship sails from Halifax.; Blitzkrieg: April - November 1940 Germany takes Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. Italy declares war. Mackenzie King considers conscription. England is strafed by the Lutwaffe.; Year of Siege: September 1940 - October 1941 The Battle of the Atlantic gets under way. German U-boats take their toll of Canadian convoys.
